Howdy Everyone!
On tuesday it started snowing out here, but I got to McArthur before it got bad.
I stayed there in a little motel on the edge of town. I usually try to talk a
motel down to $20 or so, but the original price for this one was $25, so that
was ok with me! Since the weather was bad, I knew I'd stay put on wednesday, so
I contacted the High School and asked if I could talk during their Health or PE
classes. Ms. West said sure, so on wednesday I went to school at 8:30 and stayed
till 3:00.
It sure is easy to tell the difference between the middle-schoolers and the
high-schoolers. In the middle schools, they're pretty enthused about my talks
and ask all sorts of questions, both about epilepsy and my trip. But in High
School, they try extremely hard to ignore me altogether, with a very disdained
look that says "oh puh-LEEZ." I still hope they're hearing what I'm
saying, but they sure act distant and aloof. Anyhow, the talks went pretty well.
It did snow most of the day on wednesday, but we only got a couple inches. Then
on thursday (today) it cleared up and was a nice -- but cold -- day. The roads
were clear and dry and I was glad to be back out. Lisa at the Chamber of
Commerce helped out by making some contacts for me in the next town and I really
appreciated that. I got to eat at a restuarant for free, plus she found someone
to haul my cart, and she also gave me a t-shirt of Albany. So today I walked to
Albany, around 15 miles or so. I'm staying at "Living Water Worship
Center," a church just on the outskirts of town. I enjoyed visiting with
the pastor, and he's already made several contacts for me in Athens, where I'll
walk to tomorrow. Y'all take care and have a great day! KB
