Howdy Everyone!
Yesterday after I got to Saranac Lake, I
participated in a 5k Run/Walk to help benefit the
Saranac Lake River Walk, a pathway they're trying to
put in.  The walk went around the lake, and it was
really a beautiful trek.
While I was still in Lake Placid trying to find a
place to stay at in Saranac Lake, I was running out of
options.  The Chamber of Commerce was too busy, the
motels were full, and the churches didn't call back.
Finally I called the city office and asked them if I
could stay in the volunteer fire station.  The lady
there seemed interested in my story, and said she'd
call back.  When she did return the call, she had found
a family who would let me stay with them.
I met up with Cherie after the walk and she took me
to their house.  They then had a baseball game to
attend with their boys, so they headed out and I hung
around.  When I stay at peoples houses, I tell them
there's two things I'm going to be looking for when I
get to their home:  a shower and an easy chair.  Most
homes have these items, and I am certainly quite
content to be there.
On sunday I went downtown to the train depot where
Adirondack Scenic Railroad gives train rides from
Saranac Lake to Lake Placid and back.  The ride is 2
hrs long and costs $10.  They told me I could ride for
free, and after I had gotten on and settled in, the
ticket lady came and asked me if I'd like to ride in
the locomotive with the engineer.  WOW that sounded
like a blast!  So I got to ride up front both over and
back, and at one point he even put me in the drivers
seat and let me shift gears, blow the whistle and clang
the bells!  It was a great experience and a lot of fun.
I really enjoyed leaning out the window and waving at
all the cars and children at all the road crossings.
After the train ride they gave me a t-shirt and sent me
on my merry way.  What a neat experience!
On monday I'll be walking to Coreys 13 miles away,
and I'll be staying at a Horse Ranch.  Everyone says
that's the only place in Corey, so that's who they
contacted.  Take care and have a great day!  KB
