Howdy Everyone!
I've really been enjoying my walk along the "thumb" of Michigan.  The weather has been spectacular -- still around 75 or so each day -- and the people are so nice.
Because of all the contacts that Pat at Harbor Beach has made for me, I've been staying in some really neat places.  In Grindstone I was aboe to stay in a cabin at "Captain Morgan's Grindstone Bar & Grill" for free, and in Port Austin I was able to stay at "Lake Vista Resort" for free, plus have several meals provided.   Here in Caseville, the local Chamber of Commerce contacted Lou at The Lodge At Oak Pointe, and they said yes, and the Bay Window said they'd provide a free dinner and movie.
I had a great walk on saturday from Port Austin to Caseville.  At one point I was able to walk on the beach of Lake Huron for a couple of miles.  I arrived here in Caseville on saturday afternoon, and Mike & Lou let me stay over on sunday.  Their beautiful B&B is a log-cabin lodge that sits back off the road behind a pond.  It is peaceful and serene and beautifully decorated.  Each room has a large jacuzzi bathtub, fireplace, a private outside screened in porch that overlooks the pond, and a canopy bed.  They have 2 large TV's in the front room and library, but not in the individual rooms.  Nor do they have phones in the rooms.  It is a perfect place for a refreshing getaway from the hectic hustle and bustle of life.  There are many trails in the wooded area surrounding the lodge and you can explore at your leisure.  It's a great place to be, and I feel extremely lucky to get to stay here.  Check them out at www.oakpointelodge.com.
On monday I'll be walking around 19 miles to Sebewaing ("seebwing"), where I'll be staying at a funeral home.  Yeah right, I can see the headlines now:  BROWN LAID TO REST AT FUNERAL HOME.  Actually last week when I attended the Rotary meeting, they made several contacts down the road for me, and this Rotarian just happens to be a funeral director!  And y'know, I hope to live to tell the story!  (I hope...gulp.)  So think of me tomorrow, as you hum the tune of The Ad-dams Fam-i-ly (snap snap.)
Take care and happy monday!  KB
