    This creature is a Box Turtle. I remember finding and playing with these all the time
when I was growing up.

    This one was in the woods back behind my friend's house in North
Carolina. As I almost stepped on the little thing it ducked back inside it's
shell and wouldn't come out.
    I waited for a short period of time and walked on. I came back after a
while and he was still hiding in his shell.
    I guess he didn't want his picture taken.

    So, in that case, here is a picture of a Box Turtle's shell.
        He was really in there, I promise.
