* Hard Water *
While hiking up around the White Oak Canyon Falls area in the
Blue Ridge mountains I came across this pond and at first was
wondering why it was not yet frozen. Now I've been around and
seen lots of frozen lakes, ponds, and streams but I've never seen
anything quite like this. This pond was frozen solid but looked
totally liquid. I had to get right up to the edge of the water
and physically touch it to tell that it was truly frozen. Then
looking through the water I could see clearly to the bottom and
could find no bubbles or flaws in the water to indicate that it
was frozen. It was like this pond had froze in a split second.
