For years people have been trying to avoid getting lens flare in their pictures. I actually enjoy it myself. I think it gives that interesting perspective of lighting and the illusion of the light in the image being too bright too look at. Think about it as you look at this picture. The white of the sun is no brighter than the computer monitor's white background but yet you are almost fooled that its too bright to look at.
