* Ferry to La Paz *

I awoke that morning amidst the hustle of all the other passengers as they prepared for their departure from the ferry. The sun was beginning to rise from the horizon. I watched in awe as I anticipated my arrival to La Paz, Baja, yet a little apprehensive about what I might find there.

As usual, I had slept very lightly, on and off throughout the evening as I lay out on the deck of the large vessel, completely open to the clear night sky. Most of the other passengers had found shelter inside. I was more enticed to experience the elements.
Occasionally waking from time to time to watch a few shooting stars, my mind wandered back to memories from my childhood. Looking up into the night sky I remembered times of seeing these shooting stars. I asked my mother and father what they were. They simply replied that they thought I was seeing things. "Things?" as if I were crazy? Well yes, of course I was seeing "things".
Small meteors, fragments, remnants of comets, and various other types of debris floating through space occasionally get caught in our atmosphere. Sometimes burning up as they fall through and often burning brightly as they skim along the surface of the atmosphere, much like a stone skipping across the surface of the water.

I was not crazy, I was just opening my eyes to the world around me. It seemed that I was always noticing things that others never seemed to see or even care about. I often wondered, did anybody ever look at the night sky and see more than just stars or the moon? Did anybody ever look at the world around us and see anything more than just what's right in front of them? Well I did, and I still do. It seems that I'm always learning.

Maybe we all need to continue to learn throughout our lives in order to keep our brain active. Otherwise it may just grow stagnant. Mildew creeps in and all that's left is a big blob of gray stuff in our heads.

(Just a thought)
