* Sprit Lake * |
On May 18, 1980, in Washington
state, Mount Saint Helens violently erupted, spewing ash and rock for hundreds of
miles.
At the foot of the mountain was Spirit Lake, reshaped and
devastated after the blast. The lake is still there, and amazingly, also
seen in this picture, more than twenty years later, still contains
thousands of logs floating in it. The logs were from all the trees that
were splintered and toppled from the initial blast. They actually change
locations around the lake as the wind directions change.
