* The Hitchhiker *

Once again Lee found himself driving another long haul across the country. All alone he was feeling somewhat in need of company. Nothing special, just somebody to talk to. Somebody to break the silence and boredom and just possibly make the time go by a little faster.

The road was long, talking to himself just doesn't work. The radio drifted in and out of stations. He started to feel like he was the only one out there in the world. When suddenly he could see something in the distance. Another person, like him, out there in the middle of nowhere.
A hitchhiker.

Considering himself a relatively tough individual and confident that you could handle just about any situation that might arise, he decided to pick up the stranger.

Now, not feeling so alone, conversation with another human is just what he felt he needed. Everything seemed okay for a while and he was confident that this person was not a criminal or a mass murderer and he felt fairly relaxed. He started to talk about everything. His life on the road, his friends, and his wife and family back home. Then he thanked the stranger just for being there. Somebody to talk to. Somebody to break the boredom on the long drive.
Then the stranger started to express his appreciation for picking him up when Lee suddenly realized that circumstances were not quite what he had expected.

Suddenly Lee was at a loss for words and now found it quite annoying that he actually had somebody to talk to. Now Lee was starting to wish that this stranger would just shut up and move to the other side of the vehicle.

Stuck in a strange situation Lee couldn't take it any more and finally pulled off to the side of the road and kindly asked the stranger to leave the vehicle. With very few words to say, it was done and Lee resumed his drive on the open highway.

Happy to, once again, be all alone, and have nobody to talk to.

I would just like to express that all of the characters on this page are totally fictitious and do not represent any living persons in any way. Although the driver does bare a striking resemblance to a close family member with the same name. Sorry Lee.

I was working with my graphic software and, while rummaging through the clipart, I came across a sample of a truck with two men in it and thought I'd have a little fun with it.
