* Say Cheese !! *

The amazingly strategic placement of the nest of the Hooded Oriole really caught my attention. They take the tiny threads of the edge of the palm leaves and build a next on the underside of the leaves. This one in particular was built quite a bit higher above the ground, but the palm leave has sagged a bit since the construction.

I was able to go and take a peek or two into the nest and was greeted by a very hungry baby and a few un-hatched eggs. Moving the next slightly awoke the sleeping hatchling and it popped its head up into view.

I will continue to monitor the nest and hopefully get some shots of the very shy parents as they are quite striking with their bright yellow markings.
