* Common King Snake *

I believe that this was a Common King Snake, but I never got a close enough look at it to make sure. As soon as it made its way out of the deep water, it was making a mad dash off of the highway. This was during a very big rain one day and the poor thing was actually swimming across part of the road.

Rhinocheilus lecontei
  Lampropeltis getula

A common Arizona snake easily identified by alternating
black and white (sometimes cream-off white) bands. 3-4
feet adult length. This animal is a "snake-eater"
including rattlesnakes and is therefore revered by
local golf course greens keepers in venomous snake and
rodent control.
