So I cannot tell you what or why this thing is, but I can tell you what I know. This past Saturday I drove out to Eloy, Arizona to make some skydives. As I approached the drop zone I noticed this huge ball sitting out in the middle of the desert. As I got closer I noticed some people around it, painting the black pentagons around it. beginning to give it the appearance of a large soccer ball. I asked a few people around the drop zone, but they didn't know what it was all about either. But one person did say that they had one out there that previous year, but a storm came up and had destroyed it.

Now you may ask why I didn't just walk out there and ask them what they were doing. But keep in mind, I was at a drop zone, and I was just a little preoccupied with jumping, and not so much as to why there was a big freakin' soccer ball out in the middle of the desert.

I figured that I will, at some time, eventually discover what it is for and I'll be sure to post it when I do.
