* Birth of a Thunderstorm *

This is a pretty common site during this time of year in Arizona. As the monsoon season is upon us it is not uncommon to see thunder clouds grow into view and fill the sky, sometimes quite rapidly as they build up in intensity and eventually pour down upon us with the fury of a tiny hurricane. But just as quickly as they can build up, they can also diminish and fade away, leaving the ground and surrounding areas saturated with water, creating flash floods and downed electrical lines and occasional power outages.

This area gets most of its precipitation during this time of year, which is actually a welcomed relief from the searing heat. Unfortunately, as the rain lowers the temperature a little, it also raises the humidity and can sometimes make the heat index even worse.

But what do I care? I have air conditioning. ha ha.
