* Field Burning *

In the Willamette Valley of Oregon is not uncommon to see these huge plumes of smoke rising up from the horizon like an atomic blast, as they commonly burn off the fields for the replanting of crops. They claim that it is a necessity for the sterilization and purification of the soil. But I have always thought it to be an atrocity as they commonly do this for several months every summer, creating unbearable conditions for anybody within a reasonably close vicinity to the fields. Not to mention the obvious hazards to the environment.
 This burning here was just a few miles from my friend's house and forced me to leave the property when the wind shifted in my direction.
