* Rock Beach *

While going through my images from Maui, I came across this one and was not too pleased with the contrast in the original image. Below, you can see the sky and water came out too bright, and the land, too dull.

I wanted to bring out the sky and water, and bring out the green of the land. So I divided the image into two parts and enhanced each part separately. For the image on the left, I brought the brightness and intensity way down. For the image on the right, I raised the brightness and intensity way up. This actually made for an easy way to mask the two.

 I then masked the black area in the left image, and inverted it to highlight everything but the black. I then copied the sky and water and paste it onto the other image.

Now this was just an experiment, and I was just playing around, so I really didn't take the time to smooth out the transition of the two parts, and you can actually see a little bit of the edge between them. I might have also separated the rocks from the background as well, and enhanced them differently. But these would all actually be an easy fix, if I were to ever want to do something with the image.
