I caught this shot of a female woodpecker on a saguaro.

While staying at my friend's house I have discovered that they have a few woodpeckers around their house. I do hope to get a good shot of the male woodpecker with his bright red head.

Now just outside of the window of my guest room there is a basketball goal, with a fiberglass backboard.

My new wake-up call has been that every morning, for some strange reason, these woodpeckers like to go and peck on the back side of the backboard, creating a very very loud noise, sounding something like a fast jackhammer in my head.
But it's often very short and they go away, and I go back to sleep.

I can't say how many times I have awoke from a dream where I was being shot by a machine gun.
