* Old Towns * |
This picture is from the small town of Crabtree, Oregon. A very small town that was once just a little bit more than it is today.
But as time has passed over the years,
and transportation has become so much more commonplace, people have become more
and more complacent in their daily routines of driving further distances to
acquire all their necessities in the larger towns and shopping malls. "Just
around the corner" has become to mean a much larger scale of
distance.
Although I do envision a time where these small towns and little stores might
actually come back. As fuel and transportation becomes more and more difficult
and expensive, people might again just learn to entertain themselves better at
home, and eventually lose that taste of driving so much. Then the smaller towns
and shops and stores might actually rise again, and people would be able to acquire
everything they need, "just around the corner"
Although we have also become less stable and entertained by our own homes and surroundings, and quite often feel the need to just go somewhere else, or go out. So in order to do that we have sacrificed other things, just to afford the transportation.
The wheels keep going round and round, and it's a vicious circle.
