Driving across the flat deserts can sometimes be interesting if there are any storms around the area. Since you can see for miles and miles it's neat to watch as some storm clouds form and die. And it's sometimes interesting to try to speculate whether or not you will end up driving through them. I actually got lucky in this case and just ended up driving just along the south edge of this one.
