From the Catalina State Park there are several hiking trails to choose from. The Romero Canyon trail here leads across this empty wash and up into the hills to some pools where you can actually see some real water.
There are numerous dry river beds and
washes around the area, and the people here actually call them rivers. There's
even a street called River Road, and another called Wetmore.
I once asked an audience, "Is that just wishful thinking?"
To which, one lady blurted out in protest, "You should see it during the
monsoon season!"
I replied, "Oh yeah, I've seen the river during monsoon season, and what
flows through there is not water."
"It's liquid dirt!"
