FOWLER, COLORADO 9-4-01
I spent the wkend in Pueblo and Veronica Valdez of the Epilepsy Foundation in
Pueblo took me to the Colorado State Fair. I was able to stay 2 nights at the
Holiday Inn for free.
On Monday I walked 14 miles to N. Avondale. There was an article in mondays
newspaper about my walk, so quite a few people were honking, waving, and
stopping to visit.
My best surprise came when a van pulled over and it was Bob & Shirlee Brule.
Shirlee is the lady who works at the Abbey and whose house I stayed at the next
night in Penrose.
I had left my McPherson Bullpups mug at their house, so Bob had my mug in one
hand and a cold Dr Pepper in the other. I was glad to get both! Plus Shirlee
gave me a fresh peach.
They had driven to Rocky Ford to get some fruit, and they had seen me walking
while they were driving to Rocky Ford, but they didn't stop till they were on
their way home. They are one of the nicest families I've ever met, and I'm so
lucky to have gotten to know them. Also, while I was visiting with them,
Veronica drove up and brought me a cold bottle of water. I've really enjoyed
spending the wkend here with Veronica.
Then today (Tues) Veronica hauled my cart to Fowler and I walked. Several people
stopped and checked on me, and the Blue Spruce Motel in Fowler is letting me
stay tonight for free.
Tomorrow (wed) I'll be walking 18 miles to Rocky Ford. There's no motel there,
or RV Park, so I called up Father John Farley and he said I could stay at St
Peters Catholic Church.
Here's the ph# at the motel I'm staying at tonight: 719-263-4271 Rm 118. Y'all
take care and have a great day! KB
