MOVANE, MISSOURI 1-5-02
After visiting with the ladies at the Post Office, I left Tebbets on Wednesday
morning and headed east on the KATY Trail. Word travels fast in these small
towns, because when I reached Movane they already knew who I was and what I was
doing. Ridge, a member of the Movane Lions Club, said I could stay at his &
Brians house, so I did. On Thursday I headed out down the trail, and 18 miles
later they came and picked me up and took me back to their house again. They are
super nice people. On Thurs evening a newspaper from Fulton came and did an
interview. Much to my amazement, that article made the AP wire and was in
newspapers & on radio stations all across the US on Friday. Then Friday
morning, the TV News station out of Jeff City came to Ridge & Brians house
and did a story about my walk. Around noon I was able to walk the remaining 12
miles to Hermann, MO, a quaint german town settled nearly 200 yrs ago. Sometimes
referred to as "Little Germany," Hermann has several wineries,
numerous museums, and authentic german food. I found a B&B here that will
let me stay for $20 a night, so I'll be staying here fri & sat nights.
Saturday is my "day off," so I'm planning on doing quite a bit of
exploring in this town. Give me a call if you want. The ph# here is:
