Mt Storm, West Virginia 3-21-02

Howdy Everyone!
People are so nice. I cannot say that enough times: people are SO KIND. I am holed up in a little motel in Mt Storm, and it is really snowing hard right now. They say we're suppose to get 3" tonight, and then it should warm up. Besides, I'm on top of a mountain, and tomorrow I'll be walking downhill, downhill, downhill so the weather should be somewhat warmer and different even if I do start in the snow. I was able to give a talk at the middle school today. The school is somewhat small, and they were able to bring all the 5th-8th graders in the gym. They seemed pretty enthused about my trip and stories. The people here are SO KIND. A group of about 10 people got together at the Methodist Church and fixed a big spaghetti dinner for me and we ate together. Plus they've made contacts in the next 3 towns I'll be staying in, so that's encouraging, too. And this only mentions Mt Storm -- not all the other towns that have been helping me along. For quite a few days now I've been going from church to church to church, and meeting such wonderful people. Each town has been graciously "passing the torch" and taking care of me as I plod along from town to town. Each town has made sure I've had a place to stay (church/motel/house), a meal to eat, and a contact in the next town. It is extremely encouraging to know that as I go from town to town that people know I'm out there and are awaiting my arrival. This evening I sat in on a girls scout meeting, and the leaders are already mentioning several contacts as I travel through their region. They even mentioned one of their camp grounds that I'll be walking near, so they'll be making several contacts for me, too. I am anticipating on being in Winchester, VA for easter. That is the place where I will change my route and not go straight on to Washington DC. From Winchester I will turn and head north up to Maine. I should be in Winchester by easter, and Maine by the 4th of July. Tomorrow I'll walk to New Creek, where I'll stay at Sunnyside Church of the Brethren. Then I'll go to Burlington where I'll stay at a motel for free, and then I'll go to Romney, where the pastor of the Methodist Church is expecting me. Y'all take care and have a great weekend! KB
