I left Yosemite and headed south on highway 41 to Bakersfield where I stopped to spend some time with friends there.

A sunset here in Bakersfield.

I found this little chameleon and realized that it was blind in one eye and couldn't see out of the other. This poor thing had something wrong both eyes and couldn't see a thing. I let it go in hopes that it would somehow survive and be able to catch food for itself.

After my stay in Bakersfield I headed east on highway 58 towards Death Valley. I ran into the desert pretty quick.

After some of the hills I passed over I found the wind generators. Thousands of them dotted the hills as they took advantage of the almost constant flow of wind in this area. I'm not sure how much power is generated by these systems but it must be a very practical use of some free energy. The maintenance of all these things would be my main concern. It can't be cheap making sure they all stay running.

Then I saw some of the Joshua trees out in the desert.

They are truly some amazing looking plants.
