Squirrels are sometimes the silliest little animals.
I recall a time where I was driving down
the highway and saw a squirrel in the distance. It noticed me and began a little
dance of uncertainty. It couldn't make up its mind which direction it wanted to
go. It bobbed left, I weaved right. It bobbed right, I weaved left. As I got
right up on it, I cringed in hopes that I would not hit it and tried my best to
just go right over the top. I pleaded in my mind that it would not raise its
head as I drove over.
I was somewhat relieved when I heard nothing and passed over. I quickly looked
in the rear-view mirror to see the poor little thing as the wind form the
vehicle had caused it to tumbled over and over again. I thought at that moment
that I may have actually struck the poor creature until I noticed that its legs
were moving, very fast. As the poor thing was tumbling out of control, it was
also trying to run. Over and over it seemed, it was trying to get a grip on the
highway. When it finally did, it took off like to bolt of lightning and left the
road with a cloud of dust.
I was quite relieved, having not killed the poor thing. But I can only imagine what it was thinking at that very moment.
