* Millipede * |
What's the difference between a centipede and a millipede? Although they are both arthropods, and very similar in many ways, millipedes have four legs per segment (2 pairs), rather than two legs (1 pair) on the centipede. Centipedes are predators while millipedes eat plant material. Centipedes also have poison glands for incapacitating their prey. Millipedes just secrete stinky juices.
Most millipedes have more rounded bodies than centipedes. This millipede here, that I found hustling across my floor, almost had me fooled for a moment as the back is actually more flat, like a centipede.
As for the actual name of this particular species and the exact scientific name, I have no clue. As I just share these images, I will leave the more, in depth details up to your own indulgences to research the information for yourselves.
