* Cactus Fruit *

They say that beauty is only skin deep, and what we often perceive on the outside, is not what is on the inside. Well it sure seems true in so many ways.

This really surprised me when I cut open a cactus fruit. Although there are various types of different cactus fruit, this particular one here comes from what they call a cholla cactus. The inside is actually quite good, tasting a little bit like a kiwi fruit. Unfortunately, they are quite small, only about an inch or two in diameter, and have very tiny hair-like bristles on the surface that are very uncomfortable when they make contact with the skin. They are so tiny that they are not easy to see, but you certainly feel the sharp sting after they get imbedded into your skin.
