* Monsoon Rainbows *

As the monsoon season is upon Arizona, I am attempting to get some god shots of some of the beautiful rainbows that it often is presenting. Although the image and camera didn't catch the intensity of the colors, this one was actually quite impressive, having been a full rainbow. My camera obviously couldn't capture the whole thing in one shot so I stitched several of them together for a small panoramic. With my images not lining up quite as well as they could have, my stitching software unfortunately cropped the top off as well. But I do hope to get some better shots of the rainbows in the future.

With the monsoons here they present me with some amazing moments. The day can begin with a totally clear sky, with no clouds in sight. Moisture from the Gulf, combined with the extreme temperatures of the desert in July, causes the water molecules to form high in the air, seemingly out of nothing. The clouds form to some extreme altitudes and spawn some incredibly powerful thunderstorms. They are quite spectacular to witness. They often may build up over the Catalina mountains here to the east, so when they start to fizzle out, later in the afternoon, the sun setting towards the west presents us with all the various rainbows.
