* Black Butte *

One of my favorite hikes is Black Butte in the Cascade mountains of Oregon. Actually just to the east of the range, it sits out, practically alone. With a wonderful panoramic view of the Cascade mountain range to the west, and one of the most impressive displays of wonder I have had the pleasure of witnessing. But on this particular day there were too many clouds obscuring the peaks so I didn't get a good shot of the other mountains. At 6,436 feet above sea level, and a 65 foot tall tower at the very top, it provides the forestry service a great vantage point to keep an eye out for fires in the area. The 2 mile trail is a nice steady climb to the summit
