There are several interesting things about these trees. One, with their dramatic colors, they reveal that fall is now upon us. Two, and contrary to the belief of many of my friends back east, they prove that there are trees here in Arizona. But the most impressive thing is that they survived a devastating forest fire that swept over the top of these mountains in June of 2003. The "Aspen Fire", as it was called, burned approximately 85,000 acres and destroyed more than 345 buildings and homes, before it was finally extinguished by the July monsoons.
