* How to pet a Moray Eel *

Don't do it!

This moray eel was in a tank at an aquarium in Puerto Penasco. It was swimming around at the top of the water, occasionally sticking its head up, several inches out of the water. Now, getting your hands anywhere near this thing's mouth would certainly result in a quick and serious injury. Although not seen in this shot, they do have some incredibly sharp teeth hidden in there.

I did manage to get my hand around and behind this thing's head and was able to pet it on the back of the head. It was an amazingly soft and smooth, fleshy feeling. With such vulnerable, soft skin, Its no wonder these things have hide in rocks and crevices.
