* A Horned-Toad Litter? *

This past week I was mowing the weeds and shrubs around the property. Well, until I broke the lawnmower.
Now many might ask, as I did, "Why mow these in the desert as they will just dry up and die anyway." Well, after the rains are gone and they dry up, they can become a fire hazard.

I was mowing in an area where I had previously seen a grown horned-toad lizard on numerous occasions. So I was trying to keep my eye open for anything moving. As these things are colored they can look just like part of the ground. But while I was mowing I did run across some movement. This little guy here and another one that I wasn't able to catch. I got this one and put it into a box and carefully monitored the other one where it had fled under a large cholla cactus. When I was done mowing that area, I took a few pictures and released this one back where I found it. I presume that there must be a handful of these things running around out there as it must be the offspring of the larger one I had seen.
