* Donner Pass *

As many of you know, the Donner Pass was named after the tragedy of the Donner Party. Back in the winter of 1846-1847, while the Donner party was making their move out west as they became trapped in the mountains and ran out of food. In order to survive they were driven to cannibalism.

For all the people involved back then, the incident was a horrible tragedy. Especially when we consider how easily and frequently this pass is traveled today. With Lake Tahoe, with huge resorts and hotels no more than 15 miles away. And now, a small motel and a McDonald's right there on the side of a busy freeway, no more than two miles from the place where they had become stranded.
