* The Monsoons are Here *

As yesterday's picture was taken the same day as this shot, I had fire on the side of the mountain to the east, and rain to the west.

The reports stated that the fire was started by lightning from a thunderstorm the previous evening. While I was watching the fire I looked to the west and a thunderstorm was brewing. As the sun set, it cast an amazing glow across the rain as it drifted towards the ground. However, this rain, like some others I have seen, did not quite reach the ground, other than just a few sprinkles. As the rain sometimes falls from the sky, the heat of the desert evaporates it before it reaches the ground.

But with all the recent atmospheric activity and the slew of thunderstorms last night, its pretty obvious that the monsoon season is finally here, and Arizona will get the majority of its precipitation in these few months.

So I watched and took numerous other pictures of the sunset, as the rain shifted and drifted around the sky, and as the clouds went from a light orange to a deep dark, blood red, and eventually faded. It was amazing. But certainly, one picture here with the small focal view of the camera could not capture the whole scene. Although I did take quite a few shots, and I just might have to stitch them all together at some time.
