This is a sketch of a face that I drew the other day. Now, don't even worry about who the face is, because I don't even know who it is myself. I just found a random face on the internet and wanted to experiment with it. Besides, the image here really doesn't look much like the original anyway.
Since I was a small child I have always
loved drawing. I seemed to do animals and still art fairly well. But I never
could do faces and they always came out crooked and askew and just weird. But I
had an idea just the other day and decided to see if it would work. My problem
was always the proportions and placement of the facial features. So I browsed
around the internet and found an image that seemed to have relatively good
features to work with. And I must say that she was rather attractive, and I did
end up wishing I knew who she was. And my drawing here really doesn't do her
justice either.
But I took the image and, with the aid of the computer, I tediously measured and
calculated out the distances and placements of the facial features and drew dots
where everything was. In pencil so that they could be drawn over and/or erased.
A dot for the tip of the nose, the center of the eyes, the lips, etc. I plotted
all the key points, and their relative locations. Then I drew the rest of the
picture all by hand. Now, in a way, I still feel that this was cheating. But I
do hope that it will eventually actually provide me with better skills in
working with the facial structures in my art and drawing in the future and as I
attempt to transition into painting.
I did do a lot of drawing and art work, years ago, when I was back in school. But, for some reason, my teachers always wanted to keep them to show to the other classes. But I do have a few images that I had previously posted. And I do believe that my mother might even have a few more in boxes somewhere.
