I have to say that this is not something that you really
want to find in your cupboard. As I was putting my dishes away, and saw this
out of the corner of my eye, behind a glass. I immediately knew it couldn't be
the most friendly of creatures. Besides, I really hate spiders.
So, after I did some research to try to determine what
this thing was, I originally that it must have been some variance of a brown
recluse. However it did not bear the obvious "violin"-shaped
markings on its head. So I kept looking. But I also learned that there is
actually quite a wide variety of
recluses, with many of them not even bearing the same distinctive markings of the
brown recluse. But all of them being quite poisonous, and even some being
deadly.
But after even further research I have finally come to
the firm conclusion that this is actually a Giant Crab Spider (Olios giganteus),
and with this particular specimen being the male of the species.
Although it is not poisonous, they do have
very menacing fangs and can inflict a very painful bite.
In any case, once I cornered it and trapped it into a
jar, I realized that it was very fast, and became very aggressive and
agitated.
Its seen here in its initial hiding place where I found
it, with its approximate 3" leg span.
After releasing it outside, I was only able to take a
few more pictures of it before it took off like a flash and I quickly lost
track of it. With which I very carefully backed away and fled the area myself.
I do hate spiders
