* Storm Chasing *

While I was out chasing storms till late in the evening the other night I was actually a little disappointed when I felt like I didn't get any real good shots. But after reviewing some of them later, like the past few postings, and this one here, I realized that it wasn't a completely unsuccessful evening.

This lightning strike came when the storm started producing heavy rain and was just getting a little too intense to remain in the area. This was also another one of those freaky lightning strikes that was so close that it seemed to affect the electronics of my camera again. The bolts above, as well as the trees, revealed some really strange artifacts and double-imaging that should not have been there. You can view a few of these effects if you explore through my lightning pages at: http://www.galixy.net/images/lightning/lightning.htm
And more specifically, this page:

On another note, because of the colors and low compression ratio of this image I was able to send it at this larger display size and still keep the file size on the "down low". So, although the picture is larger, the file is actually smaller than many of my normal daily email images.

For more information about file and image sizes, and different compression ratios, you can read it all in my book that I haven't written yet.
