TILLAMOOK 3-24-01
Friday I walked 15 miles from Rockaway to Tillamook. It was another nice day to
be out walking. I went through the towns of Twin Rocks, Barview, Garibaldi, and
Bay City before I ended up in Tillamook at the Chamber of Commerce.
While I was walking, I met up with a man & woman jogging north. As we
neared, he yelled "ASTORIA!" and I yelled "CALIFORNIA!" and
they gave me the thumbs-up sign and that was it. Also today a little snake
slithered by in front of me.
Mary Ann Stark, exec. dir. of the Chamber of Commerce took me to the Best
Western Motel where I met up with my cart and found my room.
Tillamook is home of the famous Tillamook Cheese factory. Cheese making began
here in 1894, when a local butter manufacturer hired a canadian cheese maker and
the fine art of making natural cheddar cheese began here in Tillamook. Currently
every year 55,000,000 lbs of cheese are delivered throughout the world from
here. In fact, my grandpa's father was one of the first people who inspected the
quality of the cheese and thus helped establish the standard & quality of
cheese that is now produced here in Tillamook.
Okay everybody listen up. I need your help. I am still dealing with blisters on
the bottom of my feet. My left foot, which had 2 huge blisters, has pretty well
healed up. But yesterday I got a blister on my right foot. There is a wonderful
product that I would like all of you to go out and buy for me. It's called
"BAND AID (brand) BLISTER BLOCK." There are only 4 band aids in a box,
and they're expensive -- around $5.00 for a box. Here's what I want you to do:
1. Go out and buy some band aids
2. Take them out of the box
3. Throw the box away
4. Put them in an envelope and mail them to me
If you can do this by mon or tue, mail them to either:
NEWPORT OR 97365 or WALDPORT OR 97394. Not only are these band aids really good
for my blisters, but they help prevent other blisters from starting. Because
they're so expensive, I only use them in dire straits. So I'm thinking if I can
get several, maybe I could get these blisters under control. I'm trying to break
a new pair of shoes in, but that takes time. Also, inside the box of band aids
is a $1.00 coupon -- be sure and use it. Thanks for your help. I'll be looking
for mail in Newport & Waldport.
One more thing, on my last journal entry talking about all the free meals I got,
I made an error on the name of the restaurant that gave me a free breakfast. The
Beach Pancake House provided me with the free breakfast, not Our Place Pancake
Steakhouse & Lounge. Please make that change in your notes. Thanks for all
your help, and take care! KB
