LINCOLN CITY 3-30-01

Sorry for not writing sooner. I haven't had access to a phone line for a few days. I've been staying in a cabin in Lincoln City for the last few days. The cabin is at a lake and has its own boat dock.
Janet Anderson, my friend from my home town of Scio, Oregon came on Tuesday and stayed with me at the cabin. I thoroughly enjoyed having her here with me. That evening a storm came up and it was pouring down rain and the wind was howling and there were white caps on the waves. I was certainly glad I was inside during the storm, and especially glad I wasn't alone. It was REALLY stormy out. Janet went home Wednesday and shortly after she left my mom & sis and her kids came to spend spring break here.
Today I walked 14 miles from Lincoln City to Depoe Bay, and the same thing happened again: a man standing on the side of the road up ahead of me. And again, he turned out to be a news reporter for the Depoe Bay Newspaper. After I got to Depoe Bay, my mom drove me back to the cabin.
The Lions club in Newport is really helping me out in this area. Prior to my trip when I was writing so many letters, I wrote one to the Lions Club here and Earl Dobson responded. Since then, we've kept in touch, and on Saturday I'm walking from Depoe Bay to Newport. Saturday & Sunday I'll be staying with him and his wife. The Lions Club is donating $100 for my walk, plus they bought me a ticket to go on a whale-watching tour in Depoe Bay on Friday. This is the perfect time to see whales now, because they're migrating north to Alaska, so that should be really neat. They also got me a ticket to go deep sea fishing for 5 hours on Sunday out of Newport Bay. I'm really looking forward to that.
Mr. Dobson has also made several contacts for me as I head south, too. He has found contacts in Newport, Waldport, Yachats & Florence, and he's getting in touch with Lions Clubs farther down the line. He's also got people lined up to haul my cart clear down to Florence, too. So he's been a great help.
This is also the area of the coast where my hometown friends & family from Scio are trying to get in touch with me, so I've been fairly busy but really enjoying it.
I'm still working with my blisters. Thanks for all of the positive responses I got from you. I'm looking forward to getting my mail in Newport & Waldport.
Y'all take care and have a great weekend! KB
