THIRSTY 7-30-01

Howdy Everyone!
This morning I headed out of town and turned south down Rt 139 heading for Grand Jct, 90 miles away.
Brenda, the lady at Radio Shack, was going to pick me up at 2:00 pm. I was doing fine till around 1:00 pm when I only had a couple swigs of Gatorade left and it was getting hot out and I was slowing down.
A motorcycle with 2 people on it stopped and checked on me to see if I was ok. I said I was fine, and that someone would pick me up in an hour. I must've looked kinda rough, because the lady then handed me her mega-jumbo size cup half-full of iced tea and said I could have the rest of it. And I did, too! I drank it down.
I got a little farther down the road and much to my surprise there was a real small rest area. I stopped there and visited with a husband & wife there with their Harley. They were both dressed in black leather and had headbands. He was around 55-ish and she seemed around 45. He had long gray hair and his mustache hung down past his chin. They offered me a beer, and I said only if it's REALLY COLD and y'know what? It was. We visited for awhile and swapped stories about our trips. They were really very nice. They took a picture of me and I took one of them. They also gave me $20.
I told them we needed to keep an eye out for a gold car coming around 2:00. Sure enough, we saw Brenda coming and we were desperately trying to flag her down but she drove right on by. I walked back out to the road hoping she wouldn't drive too far before she turned around. Come to find out, there was some road construction going on up ahead and they said I hadn't come by yet. So she was back a few mins later and she hauled me back to Rangely.
Tomorrow morning (Tues) she's going to pick me up at 6am and take me back out and drop me off. And tomorrow I will definitely have PLENTY of Gatorade.
